Recap: USC Upstate vs. Western Carolina

Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Ricardo Glenn scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the USC Upstate Spartans coasted to a 72-58 victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the M.A.C. Center.

Fred Miller gave the Spartans (3-3) a spark off the bench with 13 points in 17 minutes. Jodd Maxey made an impact with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots while Ty Greene contributed 10 points on 3-of-15 shooting from the floor.

Trey Sumler and Brandon Boggs finished with 16 points each for WCU (4-4). Sumler made only 7-of-21 field goal attempts, but also tallied nine rebounds and five assists in the losing effort.

USC Upstate took a 43-26 lead into the intermission assisted 11 of its 15 made field goals in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Catamounts could not keep up as they converted only 29 percent of their shots from the floor in the first half.

Although WCU improved to shoot 38.9 percent from the field after the break, it made just 1-of-10 tries from beyond the arc. The Spartans sank 8-of-11 shots at the charity stripe in the second stanza to protect their lead.

USC Upstate outscored WCU, 19-7, at the free-throw line and held a slight, 40-39, edge in the rebounding battle.
