Recap: UNC Greensboro vs. Citadel

Greensboro, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Cain recorded a double-double with 20 points and 16 boards to lift the UNC Greensboro Spartans to a 69-65 overtime victory over The Citadel Bulldogs in a Southern Conference thriller at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Kayel Locke tallied a team-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds for UNCG (10-9, 3-1 SoCon) while Tevon Saddler added nine points and three steals.

Ashton Moore led the Bulldogs (4-15, 0-4) with 21 points. Matt Van scyoc registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Quinton Marshall chipped in 13 points for The Citadel, which has now lost five games in a row.

The Bulldogs shot 47.8 percent from the field including a 5-of-11 clip from 3- point range in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. UNCG went into the intermission trailing, 31-20, after it connected on only 23.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half.

The Spartans rallied back after the break by hitting on 43.8 percent of their shots from the floor and converting 9-of-11 attempts at the charity stripe. UNCG held a 59-57 with just seconds left in regulation before Locke evened the score with a layup. After Van scyoc missed a 3-point try at the buzzer, the game progressed into the extra session.

Locke continued to impress in overtime as he made a layup to give UNCG a four- point lead with 19 seconds remaining before sinking a free-throw with only six seconds showing on the clock to put the game out of reach.

The Spartans enjoyed a 45-30 edge in the rebounding battle. The Citadel went just 9-of-18 at the free-throw line.
