Recap: BYU vs. St Marys-CA

Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws netted 33 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the BYU Cougars coasted to an 84-71 victory over the Saint Mary's Gaels in West Coast Conference action at the Marriott Center.

Kyle Collinsworth scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds for BYU (14-9, 6-4 WCC). The Cougars have won two consecutive games and seven of their last nine.

Brad Waldow scored 25 points and brought down seven rebounds for Saint Mary's (16-6, 6-3), while Stephen Holt contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. James Walker III added 11 points in the loss, which is the second in a row for the Gaels.

BYU shot 43.3 percent from the floor in the first half, while Saint Mary's connected on 42.4 percent of its field goal tries, including 1-of-9 from 3- point range. Still, the Gaels took a 38-37 lead into the intermission.

The Cougars came out firing for the second half, netting 55.6 percent of their shots and burying 15-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Gaels cooled off and shot 36.4 percent from the floor in the second frame.

BYU held the advantage in points off turnovers, 15-4, and had the edge in bench points, 16-8.
