Recap: Citadel vs. Chattanooga

Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Z. Mason tallied 30 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, as the Chattanooga Mocs came from behind to defeat The Citadel Bulldogs, 82-78, in a Southern Conference showdown at McAlister Field House.

It was Mason's sixth double-double of the season for Chattanooga (8-8, 2-0 SoCon), which extended its season-long winning streak to four games. Casey Jones put up 14 points, including the game-winning jumper in the final minute, while Ronrico White came off the bench to score 13 points.

For The Citadel (4-12, 0-1), Ashton Moore stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Brian White was also outstanding with 20 points and eight boards. Matt Van Scyoc chipped in 16 points for the home team.

The Citadel took control early in the game, shooting 53.3 percent from the field in the first half to take a 42-34 lead into intermission. Chattanooga, meanwhile, shot just 38.2 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mocs responded early in the second half with a 10-0 run to make the game close again. After the teams battled within one possession of each another for the majority of the stretch run, The Citadel took a one-point lead with 1:06 remaining following a pair of Moore free-throws. Those would be the final points of the game for the Bulldogs, however, as Jones' jumper with 50 seconds left gave Chattanooga the advantage for good.

The Citadel committed 17 turnovers on the evening, which turned into 20 points for Chattanooga.

Extra Points: Two wrongs don't make a right for Goodell

The fact that we look to Roger Goodell and the NFL to take the lead on any number of social issues should say more about us as a society than the commissioner or the league he lords over.
