Recap: Ga Southern vs. Citadel

Statesboro, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jelani Hewitt netted 22 points and dished out five assists as the Georgia Southern Eagles cruised past the Citadel Bulldogs, 83-52, in Southern Conference action at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Tre Bussey scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and notched five assists for Georgia Southern (10-12, 3-4 SoCon). Curtis Diamond chipped in 13 points, and Brian Holmes added 11 with six assists in the win. The Eagles broke up a three-game losing streak with the victory.

Ashton Moore was the only player to score in double figures for the Bulldogs (4-19, 0-8), netting 14 with a team-high five turnovers in the loss. The Citadel has dropped 11 consecutive contests.

Georgia Southern hit 53.6 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, and took a decisive 38-17 lead into the half. The Citadel connected on just 26.9 percent of its shots in the period.

The Eagles didn't let up in the second half, netting 53.3 percent of their shots to the Bulldogs' 41.9 percent. The Citadel finished 1-of-13 from 3-point distance in the game.

Georgia Southern held the edge in points in the paint (43-30), rebounding (43-29) and in 3-point makes (11-1).
