Recap: Loyola Marymount vs. Portland

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby Sharp hit on 5-of-7 shots from the floor en route to 14 points as the Portland Pilots defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions, 71-57, in West Coast Conference action at Gersten Pavilion.

Kevin Bailey added 13 points for Portland (11-7, 3-3 WCC), which also received a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards courtesy of Ryan Nicholas. Tomas Van der Mars contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

Anthony Ireland and Evan Payne netted 14 points each for LMU (10-8, 2-5). Ireland also provided seven rebounds and four assists while Alex Osborne tallied nine points and 10 boards.

The Pilots took a 36-29 lead into the break after they hit on 50 percent of their field goal attempts and converted 9-of-15 free-throw tries in the first half. LMU was limited to just 28.6 efficiency from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

The Lions slightly improved to hit on 35.5 percent of their shots from the floor after the break. Portland drained 5-of-8 tries from beyond the arc in the second period to put the game out of reach.

The Pilots dominated on the interior by outscoring LMU in the paint, 32-26, and holding a 41-38 edge in the rebounding battle.
