Recap: Detroit vs. Toledo

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Julius Brown made a jumper with 4.8 seconds remaining to lift the Toledo Rockets to an 80-78 win over the Detroit Titans in a matchup that was part of the 2K Classic at Calihan Hall.

Brown finished with 10 points and five assists to help Toledo (5-0) stay perfect on the early season. Rian Pearson tallied a team-high 16 points and J.D. Weatherspoon chipped in 14 points. Nathan Boothe grabbed 10 boards and finished just a point shy of a double-double.

Juwan Howard, Jr. poured in a game-high 23 points for the Titans (3-3), who led by as many as 19 in the second half. Anton Wilson went 6-of-8 from the floor to net 16 points while Carlton Brundidge scored 10 points on 2-of-10 shooting from the field.

Detroit took a 46-34 lead into halftime after it converted 7-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. The Rockets made only 4-of-9 shots at the charity stripe in the first half.

The Titans cooled off to shoot just 35 percent from the field and committed 10 turnovers in the second period. Toledo battled back by hitting on 43.2 percent of its field goal attempts and converting Detroit's miscues into 14 points. The Titans led for the majority of the second half until Brown tipped in a missed layup by Jonathan Williams to tie the score at 77. Howard, Jr. made one free-throw out of two attempts to give the hosts a one-point lead, but Brown knocked down the game-winning shot despite being fouled. He then sank his shot at the charity stripe before Howard, Jr. missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Toledo outscored Detroit, 23-12, in second chance points and also, 38-22, in the paint to secure the decision.
