Recap: Elon vs. Samford

Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jack Isenbarger and Sebastian Koch each tallied 17 points to help the Elon Phoenix cruise past the Samford Bulldogs, 86-69, in Southern Conference action at Alumni Gym.

Lucas Troutman notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, adding three blocked shots for Elon (15-11, 8-3 SoCon). Ryley Beaumont netted 14 points and pulled down seven boards, and Kevin Blake chipped in 10 points. The Phoenix have won five straight games.

Tim Williams led all scorers in the contest with 22 points for Samford (11-17, 5-8), adding seven rebounds. Raijon Kelly came off the bench to score 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, and Isaiah Williams contributed 13 points in the loss. The Bulldogs have dropped three of their last four contests.

Elon connected on 50 percent of its shot attempts in the first half, including 6-of-15 from 3-point range, and took a 43-32 lead into the break. Samford found the bottom of the net on 39.4 percent of its field goal tries in the frame, and went just 1-of-6 from deep.

Samford improved to 56 percent shooting in the second half, but was bested yet again by the Phoenix, who connected on 57.7 percent of their tries from the floor, and went 9-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Elon had the edge in points off turnovers, 40-32, and outscored the Bulldogs from 3-point distance, 30-9. Samford had the advantage in bench points, 22-12.
