Recap: Samford vs. Furman

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Raijon Kelly converted the game-winning three-point play in the final minute to lead the Samford Bulldogs over the Furman Paladins, 57-55, in a Southern Conference tilt at the Pete Hanna Center.

Tyler Hood scored 13 points for Samford (7-10, 1-3 SoCon), while Isaiah Williams had 11 points and six assists. Tim Williams brought down eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Kendrec Ferrara paced the Paladins (6-13, 0-4) with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Stephen Croone added 11 points and four assists in Furman's fourth straight loss.

Furman shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and had a 32-29 lead at the break. Samford struggled by shooting 38.1 percent on field goal attempts but managed to stay close by making 12-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Neither team shot well in the second half, as the Bulldogs made just 32 percent of their field goal tries and the Paladins just 30.4 percent. Furman took a three-point lead with 43 seconds left on a Croone 3-pointer, but after Samford made it a one-point game on a a pair of Hood free throws, it captured the lead for good on Kelly's three-point play with 12 seconds remaining. A Croone layup was blocked on the other end as the Bulldogs held on.

Samford took advantage of Furman's mistakes by outscoring the Paladins 10-2 in points off turnovers.
