Recap: Pepperdine vs. San Diego

Malibu, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Brooks poured in 20 points as the Pepperdine Waves bested the San Diego Toreros, 75-64, in the West Coast Conference opener at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Brooks shot 7-of-13 from the field for Pepperdine (8-5, 1-0 WCC), including 4- of-8 from 3-point range. Brendan Lane netted 18 points on 8-of-10 from the floor, Jeremy Major scored 13 points and Stacy Davis tallied a double-double for the hosts with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For San Diego (9-5, 0-1), Johnny Dee paced all scorers with 26 points, doing so on 10-of-19 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Dennis Kramer tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, while Duda Sanadze netted 10 points.

Pepperdine shot 41.4 percent from the field in the first half, including 5- of-11 from beyond the arc, as it carried a 34-26 lead into intermission. San Diego made good on just 36 percent of its field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes.

The Toreros came storming back in the second half and even took a 53-52 lead with 11:39 to play on a Christopher Anderson layup, but the Waves took control again a few minutes later by ripping off a 13-3 run.

San Diego was plagued by 14 turnovers, which turned into 21 points for Pepperdine. The Waves committed just eight miscues themselves.
