Recap: Santa Clara vs. Pepperdine

Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind career-highs 26 points and 17 rebounds from Brendan Lane, the Pepperdine Waves outlasted the Santa Clara Broncos, 70-61, in West Coast Conference action at the Leavey Center.

Lane shot 10-of-15 from the field and also blocked four shots for Pepperdine (10-5, 3-0 WCC), which has won four straight. Jeremy Major and Malcolm Brooks each scored 11 points, with Major also adding seven assists and seven rebounds.

For Santa Clara (8-8, 1-3), Jared Brownridge put up 18 points and six assists, while Brandon Clark and Evan Roquemore contributed 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Santa Clara shot an impressive 48.1 percent from the field in the first half, but Pepperdine was even better at 53.6 percent, as the Waves took a 38-33 lead into intermission.

Both teams struggled in the second stanza, as each shot less than 38 percent from the floor. The Broncos briefly tied the game at 55 on a Jalen Richard layup with 8:29 left, but the Waves regained the lead less than a minute later on a free throw by Amadi Udenyi, and they never trailed again.

Pepperdine shot 15-of-20 from the free-throw line on the evening, while Santa Clara was just 6-of-10.
