The Eagles took a narrow, 36-35, lead into the intermission after they shot 40 percent from the field and converted 9-of-14 attempts at the free-throw line in the first half. UNCG trailed at the break despite hitting on 50 percent of its field goal tries including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes of the contest.

GSU outscored the Spartans, 16-10, in the paint in the second period. The Eagles led, 64-59, with 4:05 remaining in regulation. Although they were held scoreless the rest of the way, UNCG also failed to make another shot from the floor before the final buzzer. Tevon Saddler sank a free-throw try with 2:11 showing on the clock to make it a one-possession game. Kayel Locke and Cain both missed layups in the final minute of the tilt that would have evened the score.
