Recap: St Marys-CA vs. Portland

Moraga, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Holt poured in 26 points to propel the Saint Mary's-CA Gaels to a 70-61 decision over the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference tilt at McKeon Pavilion.

Brad Waldow nearly recorded a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds for SMC (21-9, 11-6 WCC), while Kerry Carter netted 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor.

Thomas van der Mars paced the Pilots (15-14, 7-10) with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Ryan Nichols contributed 13 points and eight boards, while David Carr scored 10 points. Bryce Pressley chipped in 10 points and seven assists as Portland endured its third consecutive setback.

The Gaels took a 34-30 lead into the intermission after they connected on 8- of-20 attempts from 3-point range in the opening stanza. Portland shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half.

The Pilots managed to attempt 11 more shots from the field after the break, but SMC extended its lead by outscoring the visitors, 13-3, at the charity stripe in the second period.

The Gaels converted Portland's 12 turnovers into 13 points. SMC's bench outscored the Pilots' reserves, 14-3.
