Recap: Samford vs. Western Carolina

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Williams erupted for a career-high 32 points as the Samford Bulldogs defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts, 93-86, in Southern Conference play at the Pete Hanna Center.

Williams, who scored 19 points in the first half alone, converted a stellar 10-of-11 from the floor and 12-of-13 at the free-throw line for the Bulldogs (12-19, 6-10 SoCon) as they snapped a four-game slide to close out the regular season. Michael Bradley pitched in with 15 points and seven rebounds, Jordan Capps 11 points in 14 minutes off the bench and Connor Miller 10 points and eight boards before fouling out for the hosts.

The Catamounts (17-14, 10-6) were led by Trey Sumler with 27 points, while Brandon Boggs and Mike Brown both accounted for 11 points and Tom Tankelewicz 10 as the team lost for a second time in as many games.

Samford shot a sizzling 70.8 percent from the field in the first half, not to mention 10-of-12 at the free-throw line, in order to secure a 45-36 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Bulldogs cooled considerably from the floor (.478), but picked up the slack at the charity stripe (23-of-27) en route to the win.

In a game that featured seven ties and just as many lead changes, the Bulldogs finished with an impressive 59.6 percent accuracy from the field and held WCU to a mere 4-of-16 behind the 3-point line.
