Recap: Santa Clara vs. North Dakota St

Santa Clara, CA ( - Taylor Braun scored 21 points as the North Dakota State Bison outlasted the Santa Clara Broncos in the semifinals of the Cable Car Classic at the Leavey Center.

Braun hit 19-of-19 shots from the free-throw line to secure his team-high point total for North Dakota State (3-3), which advances to face Rider in the tournament's title game. Mike Felt and Lawrence Alexander each added 15 points. Marshall Bjorklund tacked on 13, TrayVonn Wright put in 12 and Kory Brown chipped in with 10.

Brandon Clark tallied a game-high 32 points for Santa Clara (2-3). Jared Brownridge logged 16 points and Evan Roquemore pitched in 11.

North Dakota State barely missed over the first 20 minutes, connecting on an incredible 81 percent of its field goal attempts. Santa Clara forced eight turnovers and hit 7-of-13 shots from beyond the arc, to remain within striking distance, though the Broncos trailed, 50-39, at the break.

In the second half the Broncos were the hot shooting team, netting 51.9 percent from the floor. Despite cooling to 40 percent shooting themselves, the Bison were able to hold on thanks to a 20-of-21 effort from the free-throw line.

North Dakota State owned a hefty advantage on the boards (35-22) and points in the paint (42-24).
