Recap: Western Ill vs. IUPU-Ft Wayne

Macomb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Luis Jacobo tallied a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, as the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons downed the Western Illinois Leathernecks, 65-56, in a Summit League bout at Western Hall.

Jacobo shot a modest 4-of-10 from the field but was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line for IPFW (21-9, 9-4 Summit), winners of two straight. Joe Reed and Steve Forbes added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

For WIU (9-19, 3-10), losers of seven in a row, Jabari Sandifer scored 14 points, Garret Covington netted 13 and Adam Link posted 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

IPFW shot just 40.7 percent from the field in the first half, but it still took a comfortable 29-22 lead into intermission by holding WIU to just 38.1 percent shooting.

The Leathernecks used an 11-0 run early in the second stanza to take a two- point lead. The teams battled tight down the stretch until, leading by two with under three minutes left, the Mastodons used an 8-1 surge to put the game away.

IPFW shot 8-of-19 from 3-point range, while WIU was just 5-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Mastodons also won the rebounding battle, 36-27.
