Recap: Vermont vs. Sonoma State

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kurt Steidl led all scorers with 19 points to lead the Vermont Catamounts past the Sonoma State Seawolves, 73-61, as part of the Golden Gate Challenge at War Memorial Gymnasium.

Candon Rusin scored 17 points off the bench for Vermont (3-6). Clancy Rugg tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Sandro Carissimo added 13 points.

For Sonoma State (1-3), James Davis had 18 points on 5-of-10 from 3-point range and Justin Herold chipped in 14 points. Sterling Arterberry was a dreadful 1-of-11 from the field but ripped down 11 rebounds.

Vermont shot a lofty 60 percent from the field in the first half, while Sonoma State struggled at just 33.3 percent, as the Catamounts ran out to a 39-27 lead at the break.

The Catamounts' lead never dipped below seven points in the second half, and their advantage swelled to as many as 18.

Vermont was on fire from 3-point range, shooting 11-of-17, while the Seawolves were just 6-of-22 from long distance.
