Recap: Nebraska Omaha vs. Western Ill

Omaha, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - John Karhoff and Justin Simmons both scored 19 points, as the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks claimed a 71-60 win over the Western Illinois Leathernecks in Summit League play from Ralston Arena.

Mike Rostampour and C.J. Carter chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Mavericks (15-9, 4-4 Summit), winners of three straight.

Garret Covington led all scorers with 21 points and Jabari Sandifer scored 14 for the Leathernecks (9-14, 3-5), who have dropped three of their last four games.

WIU never led in the contest, as it shot just 39.1 percent from the floor in the opening frame and trailed by a 35-28 margin at the break.

Omaha kept its foot on the gas in the second stanza by making 19-of-23 free throws and holding the Leathernecks to 8-of-29 shooting (.276) from the floor.

The Mavericks forced 19 turnovers to avenge an overtime loss to WIU in the first meeting of the season.
