Recap: South Dakota vs. South Dakota St

Vermillion, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Brayden Carlson led the way with 22 points as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits defeated the South Dakota Coyotes, 70-68, in a Summit League battle at the DakotaDome.

For the Jackrabbits (12-10, 4-3 Summit), Jordan Dykstra posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Jake Bittle and Marcus Heemstra each chipped in with 10 points.

Casey Kasperbauer led the Coyotes (8-13, 3-4) with 17 points, while Trevor Gruis added 16 points and six rebounds, and Trey Norris scored 14.

South Dakota shot 45.8 percent from the field, including 4-of-11 from 3-point range, as the Coyotes took a slim 32-31 lead at the break. South Dakota State struggled from the floor in the first half, making just 38.5 percent of its field goal tries.

After the break, the Jackrabbits improved to 47.8 percent shooting and 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Coyotes shot 42.9 percent in the second but only 2- of-8 from deep. The Jackrabbits opened the half on a 9-2 run, taking a lead they would never relinquish as they held on down the stretch for the win.

The Jackrabbits outscored the Coyotes in the paint, 22-16, and outrebounded them, 32-22. Both squads took care of the ball, with each only committing 12 turnovers.
