Recap: San Diego vs. South Dakota St

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnny Dee poured in 27 points and the San Diego Toreros used a late run to overcome the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 74-70, as part of the USD Classic at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Dee shot 9-of-17 from the field for San Diego (1-0), including 6-of-12 from 3- point range. Duda Sanadze chipped in 14 points, while Christopher Anderson (11 points, eight assists) and Dennis Kramer (nine points, 10 rebounds) both narrowly missed double-doubles.

For SDSU (0-1), Jake Bittle came off the bench to lead the way with 18 points, while Marcus Heemstra was right on his heels with 16 points. Brayden Carlson (12 points) and Cody Larson (11 points, eight rebounds) were both impressive as well.

San Diego opened up the game strong by shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half, as it took a 41-34 lead into intermission.

SDSU outplayed the Toreros for the majority of the second half and took a 70-66 lead after Anders Broman went 1-of-2 from the foul line with 2:12 left in the game, but that would be the final point of the game for the Jackrabbits. After Dee made a 3-pointer to get within one, San Diego took the lead for good on a Sanadze jumper with 1:00 left in the contest. SDSU committed three turnovers in the game's final minute, and Sanadze's 2-of-2 trip to the line in the waning seconds sealed the victory for the Toreros.

San Diego managed to win despite going just 13-of-26 from the foul line and committing 19 turnovers.

The USD Classic will continue on Saturday when San Diego plays Grand Canyon and SDSU takes on Loyola Marymount
