Recap: Canisius vs. Monmouth

Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Baron tallied 26 points, eight rebounds and six assists, as the Canisius Golden Griffins made easy work of the Monmouth Hawks, 87-67, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Baron shot 8-of-12 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range for Canisius (11-6, 5-1 MAAC), which has won back-to-back games. Zach Lewis was also outstanding for the home team, shooting 7-of-10 from beyond the arc for 25 points, while Jordan Heath added 14 points and seven boards.

For Monmouth (8-9, 2-4), Josh James came off the bench to score 16 points and Justin Robinson netted 11.

Monmouth shot 42.3 percent from the field in the first half, slightly better than Canisius's 40 percent, but the Griffs still took a 39-29 lead into intermission by shooting 6-of-17 from long range and 9-of-15 from the free- throw line in the opening 20 minutes.

The Griffs' field goal efficiency improved to 60.9 percent after halftime, as their advantage swelled to as many as 26 down the stretch.

Canisius finished 14-of-30 from 3-point territory, while Monmouth drained just 4-of-17 from long distance.
