Recap: Rider vs. Canisius

Lawrenceville, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Baron tallied 29 points and 10 assists to lead the Canisius Golden Griffins to a 79-66 victory over the Rider Broncs in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Alumni Gymnasium.

Baron shot 10-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range for Canisius (20-10, 14-5 MAAC), which has won four of five. Jordan Heath knocked down 8-of-9 from the floor on his way to 21 points, while Zach Lewis and Chris Perez poured in 14 and 10 points, respectively.

For Rider (13-15, 9-10), losers of three straight and six of seven, Jimmie Taylor and Anthony Myles both scored 15 points, Tommy Pereira had 11 points and Zedric Sadler netted 10.

Canisius set the tone early by shooting 52 percent from the field in the first half, while holding Rider to a mere 28 percent shooting, as it went into intermission with a commanding 36-21 lead.

Although the Broncs improved to 52 percent from the field in the second half, they could not gain much ground on the Griffs, who continued their hot shooting over the final 20 minutes (.552).

Rider was plagued by a game-high 16 turnovers, which resulted in 27 points for Canisius.
