Recap: Fairfield vs. Iona

Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Armand poured in 28 points for Iona as the Gaels bested the Fairfield Stags, 83-72, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup at Webster Bank Arena.

Armand also handed out seven assists while David Laury tallied 19 points and nine rebounds for Iona (5-2, 2-0 MAAC). A.J. English also got in the mix with 18 points.

Maurice Barrow registered 26 points and 10 rebounds to pace Fairfield (1-8, 0-2). Coleman Johnson had 16 points and eight rebounds and K.J. Rose added 11 points.

The Gaels got out to a 48-37 lead at halftime by shooting 51.7 percent from the floor, while holding the Stags to just 35.3 percent, in the first period.

After the break the Gaels cooled to 44.8 percent shooting but Fairfield failed to take advantage, netting only 35.9 percent from the floor.

Iona outscored Fairfield, 48-30, in the paint. Fairfield had the advantage in rebounds (43-39).
