Recap: Fairfield vs. Saint Peters

Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - A 3-pointer by Desi Washington as time expired lifted the Saint Peter's Peacocks to a thrilling 56-55 win over the Fairfield Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at Webster Bank Arena.

Washington finished with just seven points for the Peacocks (5-9, 1-4 MAAC) on 2-of-8 shooting from the floor as the team snapped a two-game slide. Jamel Fields came off the bench to register a team-best 13 points and Trevis Wyche added 12 for the visitors.

The Stags (3-12, 0-5), losers of three straight and four of the last five, were paced by Justin Jenkins who tallied a game-high 16 points, followed by Maurice Barrow and Marcus Gilbert with 10 points apiece.

Saint Peter's shot a mere 33.3 percent from the floor in the first half, connecting on only nine total field goals, leaving the squad with a 31-23 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Peacocks dropped down to just 29.0 percent accuracy from the floor, including 2-of-8 beyond the arc, but at the same time Fairfield connected on a total of only six field goals, 1-of-8 on the perimeter, allowing the visitors to stay close and eventually escape with the win.

The teams both knocked down 18 field goals and 15 free throws overall, the only difference being the Peacocks had one more 3-point basket on the night.

Johnson headlines FCS players of the week

In 2013, the Montana State Bobcats made a bit of an offensive switch, going from a pass-heavy system to a more run- integrated style of play. The reason wasn't because the team was unstable at quarterback, but rather due to the fact the Bobcats were loaded at the running back position.
