Recap: Drexel vs. Cleveland State

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Frantz Massenat made a go-ahead basket with 2:52 left in the third overtime as the Drexel Dragons squeaked by the Cleveland State Vikings, 85-82, during a non-conference affair at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Tavon Allen scored 23 points for the Dragons (5-2). Massenat tallied 21 points and nine assists, followed by Chris Fouch with 17 points and Dartaye Ruffin who had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Jon Harris led the Vikings (4-4) with 27 points. Bryn Forbes added 23 points, while Trey Lewis chipped in 15 with eight assists, although the latter also turned the ball over seven times.

Drexel shot 44 percent from the field and made 3-of-9 from the 3-point line which was good enough to have a 30-20 lead at the half. The Vikings converted 36 percent from the floor and made only 1-of-9 from beyond the arc in the frame.

CSU shot an astonishing 70 percent on field goal attempts and drained 6-of-8 shots from behind the 3-point line after the break. Drexel struggled shooting 34.8 percent from the floor and making 1-of-7 3-point tries. Lewis made the back-end of a trip to the free-throw line with eight seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game up at 58-58, while Massenat missed a shot as time expired.

With 25 seconds to play in the first overtime, Forbes knocked down a 3-point shot to tie the game at 66-66. Again, Massenat had a chance to win it for the Dragons but he missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Lewis made two free throws with 1:42 remaining in the second bonus session to put the Vikings up 72-70. Allen made 1-of-2 free-throws with 48 seconds left and Massenat did the same with four seconds remaining to force yet another overtime period.

The Dragons outscored the visitors in the paint, 42-22. and forced the Vikings into 17 turnovers on the night.
