Albany, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - A.J. English notched 31 points for the Iona Gaels, as they topped the Siena Saints, 87-78, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at the Times Union Center.

English shot 7-of-16 from the field and 12-of-15 from the free-throw line for the Gaels (8-7, 5-1 MAAC), who have won three of their last four games. Sean Armand and Tre Bowman followed with 19 and 11 points, respectively.

Evan Hymes scored 19 points to lead the Saints (7-10, 3-3), who have lost two of their last four. Rob Poole and Maurice White added 16 and 12 points, respectively. Marquis Wright had nine points and seven assists.

The Saints shot a composed 48.3 percent from the floor in the opening half. The Gaels, in turn, shot 45.5 percent, but that included a devastating 9-of-19 from beyond the arc, putting them ahead 50-40 at the end of the half.

In the second half, the Saints' 55.6 field goal percentage was again better than their opponent's 42.9 percent, but the Gaels got another boost from 6- of-11 from the perimeter and made 13-of-20 at the line to hang on for the win.

Apart from its superior perimeter game, Iona outscored Siena 25-6 in points off turnovers.
