Recap: Saint Peters vs. Iona

Jersey City, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - A.J. English scored 18 points, leading four players in double figures, as the Iona Gaels captured a 71-63 win over the Saint Peter's Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Yanitelli Center.

David Laury and Mike Poole both contributed 14 points for the Gaels (11-8, 8-2 MAAC), the latter also clearing a team-best nine rebounds, while Tre Bowman pitched in with 10 points as they won for the fifth time in six outings.

The Peacocks (7-12, 3-7) were paced by Marvin Dominique who dropped in 18 points, Desi Washington followed with 13 and Trevis Wyche 11 points in the third straight setback.

The Gaels erupted for 58.1 percent shooting from the field in the first half, including 6-of-13 beyond the arc, en route to a commanding 44-27 lead at the break. Saint Peter's stumbled out of the gate with just 35.5 percent accuracy from the floor and 3-of-11 on the perimeter.

In the second half the Peacocks were able to close the gap, holding the visitors to just seven made field goals, but it proved to be too little, too late in the eight-point final.

Utilizing just a couple of reserves, the bench for the Gaels still outscored the hosts by a 14-6 margin.
