Recap: Marist vs. Iona

Poughkeepsie, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - David Laury and AJ English both tallied 22 points as the Iona Gaels captured an 86-67 win over the Marist Red Foxes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the McCann Center.

Laury, who shot 10-of-18 from the floor as a reserve, added nine rebounds and three steals for the Gaels (19-8, 16-2 MAAC) as they stretched their win streak to 11 in a row. Also scoring in double figures for the visitors were Sean Armand with 16 points, Tre Bowman 11 and Isaiah Williams 10 in the triumph.

The Red Foxes (11-17, 8-10) were paced by Khallid Hart with 18 points, although he shot just 1-of-5 behind the 3-point line on the day. Chavaughn Lewis pitched in with 17 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Jay Bowie and Adam Kemp tacked on 14 and 10 points, respectively, the latter also collecting nine boards as the team suffered a second straight loss.

Both teams shot the ball well from the field overall in the first half, Iona hitting on 53.3 percent and the Red Foxes 50.0 percent, but Marist was a mere 2-of-11 beyond the arc in the frame, en route to a 41-38 deficit at the break.

In the second half the hosts again had trouble finding the basket from long range, converting just 1-of-11, not to mention just eight field goals overall, as Iona pulled away for the lopsided victory.

The Gaels finished the day shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and held Marist to a mere 3-of-22 beyond the arc.
