Recap: Marist vs. Manhattan

Poughkeepsie, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - George Beamon registered a double- double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Manhattan Jaspers posted a 70-59 win over the Marist Red Foxes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at McCann Arena.

Leading the way in scoring for the Jaspers (5-2, 1-0 MAAC) was Michael Alvarado who tallied 18 points, thanks in large part to 10-of-12 shooting at the free-throw line. Rhamel Brown pitched in with 12 points as the team won for the third time in the last four outings.

The Red Foxes (0-9, 0-2) were paced by Chavaughn Lewis with a game-high 23 points, followed by Khallid Hart with 11, but still the team lost for the 10th straight game going back to last season.

Manhattan scored the first points of the night and never looked back as it survived just 39.3 percent shooting from the floor in the first half in order to take a 37-26 lead at the break. Marist made good on only 36.0 percent from the field and 1-of-5 beyond the arc over the first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half the team's played to a tie, even as the Red Foxes again struggled on the perimeter (1-of-8), en route to the double-digit setback.

Manhattan not only outscored the hosts at the free-throw line, 25-15, it also forced 17 turnovers.
