Recap: Manhattan vs. Marist

Riverdale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a career-high 33 points from Michael Alvarado, the Manhattan Jaspers outlasted the Marist Red Foxes in overtime, 86-79, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference bout at Draddy Gymnasium.

Alvarado made 13-of-17 from the field for Manhattan (12-3, 5-1 MAAC), which has won nine of its last 10 contests. Rich Williams (13 points) and Emmy Andujar (10 points, nine rebounds) were both solid off the bench, while Shane Richards chipped in 11 points.

For Marist (5-11, 2-4), Chavaughn Lewis shined with 25 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Khallid Hart made all 10 of his free-throw attempts on his way to 24 points. Jay Bowie put up 15 points for the visitors.

Manhattan outshot Marist from the field in the first half, 60.9 percent to 33.3 percent, but it only led by six heading into halftime, 36-30. The Red Foxes kept the game close by draining 14-of-18 from the stripe in the opening frame.

The Jaspers led by as many 13 points early in the second half, but the Red Foxes quickly turned things around by ripping off a 28-6 run to take a nine- point advantage with 5:21 remaining. Manhattan wouldn't roll over, however, and a Williams dunk with 1:15 left tied the game at 73. Neither team was able to score down the stretch and the contest went to overtime.

Marist scored the first bucket of the extra session, but Manhattan quickly took control with a 7-0 run and finished the Red Foxes off at the foul line, shooting 4-of-5 from the stripe in the final 38 seconds.

Manhattan outscored Marist in the paint, 46-30.
