Recap: Marist vs. Monmouth

Poughkeepsie, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Chavaughn Lewis registered 24 points and seven rebounds with four assists as the Marist Red Foxes escaped with a narrow 75-73 win over the Monmouth Hawks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at McCann Arena.

Khallid Hart scored 17 points but turned the ball over six times, while Jay Bowie added 11 for the Red Foxes (7-14, 4-7 MAAC), who snapped a two-game skid. Adam Kemp had 10 points, six rebounds and five blocks.

Deon Jones logged 14 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks (10-12, 4-7), who have lost two straight. Andrew Nicholas and Max DiLeo scored 10 points apiece with Nicholas adding five assists. Tyrone O'Garro cleared 11 boards.

Marist shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 7-of-16 from 3-point range, as the team led 43-34 at the break. Monmouth made 40.6 percent of its field goal attempts in the half.

The Red Foxes converted 40 percent of their field goal tries in the second stanza, but attempted nine fewer shots than the Hawks. Monmouth was within one point with just seven seconds left, but Marist managed to hold on after Lewis made a pair of free throws and Manny Thomas made one-of-two at the charity stripe to put the Red Foxes up four with four seconds to play. DiLeo made two-of-three from the free-throw line, but Marist came up with the rebound with one second to seal the win.

Despite the loss, Monmouth outrebounded Marist 41-31, and outscored the Red Foxes 32-18 in the paint.
