Recap: Niagara vs. Quinnipiac

Niagara, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Umar Shannon knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer in the final moments as the Quinnipiac Bobcats pulled out a thrilling 90-88 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at the Gallagher Center.

Umar Shannon finished the afternoon shooting a miserable 3-of-16 from the field and 2-of-9 behind the 3-point line, but he came up big when it counted for the Bobcats (19-8, 14-4 MAAC) as they ran their win streak to seven in a row.

Ousmane Drame put together a massive double-double with 26 points and 18 rebounds, converting all but two of his 12 field goals, while Ike Azotam had a double-double of his own with 26 points and 13 boards. Evan Conti tacked on 15 points and five assists for the visitors.

The Purple Eagles (6-23, 3-15), losers of eight straight and 10 of the last 11, were paced by Antoine Mason who tallied a game-high 31 points, while Marcus Ware produced 15, Marvin Jordan 14 points and Joe Thomas 12 in the regular-season home finale for Niagara.

Niagara appeared to be well on the way to a long-overdue victory in the first half as it shot 57.6 percent from the field, en route to a 46-33 advantage at the break. The Bobcats shot only 35.1 percent from the floor in the frame.

In the second half Quinnipiac lit up the scoreboard with 59.5 percent accuracy, while the hosts dipped to 37.5 percent, but still the Bobcats needed a prayer from Umar Shannon to take the win.

The visitors overcame a 17-point deficit by generating 27 offensive rebounds, just two short of what Niagara had at both ends of the floor for the entire game.
