Recap: Morgan State vs. Hampton

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Black scored 26 points and Anthony Hubbard posted a double-double, although each fouled out before the Morgan State Bears escaped with a 94-92 win in double overtime against the Hampton Pirates in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference bout at Hill Field House.

Hubbard tallied 18 points and 17 rebounds for Morgan State (8-12, 6-2 MEAC), which has won back-to-back games. Blake Bozeman and Donte Pretlow each added 11 points.

Du'Vaughn Maxwell had 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks for Hampton (11-11, 6-3)., Deron Powers tacked on 15 points, but also had eight turnovers and Brian Darden chipped in 11 points.

The Pirates entered halftime leading 36-29. They connected on 41.4 percent from the floor in the first period, while the Bears were at 39.3 percent.

Morgan State rallied in the second half, shooting 48 percent from the field. Justin Black split a pair of free-throws with 26 seconds remaining to give the Bears a 69-65 lead. Darden then sank two foul shots on the other end to pull Hampton within two, only to have Hubbard split two more attempts at the charity stripe for Morgan State with 14 seconds to play. However, Ramon Mercado saved the Pirates with a 3-pointer in the final seconds to force overtime.

There were three ties in the first overtime, during which each team took turns holding the lead. The final tie of the period came when Pretlow sank a pair of free-throws with three seconds to play, pushing the game to another extra frame.

The Bears were finally able to pull out the victory in the second overtime when they hit 3-of-6 from the floor and 7-of-9 at the charity stripe.
