Recap: UNC-Wilmington vs. James Madison

Wilmington, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Charles Cooke netted 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting and secured nine rebounds as the James Madison Dukes captured a 60-55 win over the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in Colonial Athletic Association action at Trask Coliseum.

Andrey Semenov added 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting for James Madison (6-9, 1-0 CAA) in the conference opener for both squads. Taylor Bessick scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds in 20 minutes of action for JMU as it won for the third time in as many games.

Cedrick Williams and Freddie Jackson were the leading scorers for UNC Wilmington (6-10, 0-1) with nine points each. Williams grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, narrowly missing out on a double-double, and added four blocks to his stat line. The Seahawks have lost five consecutive contests.

James Madison shot 50 percent in the first half as the Dukes took a 37-30 lead into the half. They hit on 3-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc in the first period and connected on 6-of-8 at the free-throw line. UNCW hit 11-of-24 shots from the floor in the first.

The Dukes cooled off in the second half, shooting 39.1 percent from the floor. But the Seahawks did as well, connecting on just 34.8 percent of their shots from the field in the second frame, not to mention 6-of-11 at the free-throw line in the period.

JMU shot just 21.4 percent from distance in the game (3-of-14) but had the edge in rebounding, 40-29. The Dukes only recorded six assists in the contest.
