Recap: Towson vs. James Madison

Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Rafriel Guthrie came off the bench to score 17 points as the Towson Tigers edged out the James Madison Dukes, 80-71, in Colonial Athletic Association play at SECU Arena.

Jerrelle Benimon notched a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds for Towson (15-8, 6-2 CAA). Mike Burwell chipped in 14 points and five rebounds, while Marcus Damas tallied 10 points and seven boards. The Tigers have won three consecutive games.

Andre Nation led all scorers in the game with 20 points for James Madison (8-15, 3-6). Ron Curry added 13 points, and Charles Cooke contributed 10 points with seven rebounds. The Dukes have lost two games in a row.

Towson was on fire in the first half, connecting on 53.6 percent of its shots from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. The Tigers held James Madison to 35.3 percent shooting in the period, including 0-of-7 from 3-point distance, and took a 38-25 lead into the intermission.

The Tigers cooled off to 44 percent shooting in the second half, while the Dukes improved to 51.6 percent from the floor in the frame. JMU outscored Towson 48-42 in the half, but the 13-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome.

Towson had the edge in bench points, 22-18, and from the free-throw line, 19-9. The Dukes outscored the Tigers in points off turnovers, 11-3.
