Recap: Southern U vs. Miss Valley St

Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Malcolm Miller poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the Southern University Jaguars to an 83-74 victory over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in a Southwestern Athletic Conference bout at the F.G. Clark Center.

Calvin Godfrey tallied a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds for Southern (15-11, 11-2 SWAC), which was won six of seven, and Yondarius Johnson chipped in with 11 points.

For MVSU (8-18, 4-9), losers of four straight, DeAngelo Priar scored 22 points, while Jeffrey Simmons and Jordan Washington netted 17 points apiece.

Southern took control of the contest early, shooting 57.1 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 37-29 lead heading into intermission.

MVSU climbed back in it and led by one with under seven minutes to play, but the Jaguars answered by ripping off a 13-2 run to pull away.

Southern won the rebounding battle, 40-29, which helped mask a game-high 15 turnovers.
