Recap: Towson vs. William & Mary

Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Burwell sunk a two-point jumper with one second left on the clock to lift the Towson Tigers to a 70-68 victory over the William & Mary Tribe in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at SECU Arena.

Burwell finished the contest with 10 points and five assists for Towson (22-9, 13-3 CAA). Jerrelle Benimon tallied a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Tigers, who finished the regular season a game back of Delaware in the CAA standings. Rafriel Guthrie chipped in 12 points, and Marcus Damas added 10 points. Towson finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak.

Tim Rusthoven scored 20 points and dished out five assists for William & Mary (18-11, 10-6). Omar Prewitt chipped in 17 points and nine rebounds, and Marcus Thornton contributed 13 points in the loss. The Tribe ended a two-game winning streak with the defeat.

William & Mary connected on 46.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, but went just 3-of-11 from 3-point distance, and took a 36-26 lead into the half. Towson shot just 33.3 percent from the floor, and hit only one of its nine 3-point tries in the frame.

The tide turned in the second half, as the Tigers netted 57.7 percent of their tries, including 4-of-8 from deep, and added 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. The Tribe shot 33.3 percent, and hit just 3-of-12 from 3-point range. Prewitt tied the scored at 68 apiece with 21 seconds left on a pair of free throws before Burwell hit the game-winning shot.

Towson had the edge in points off turnovers, 12-8, and in fast break points, 11-5. William & Mary won the battle in bench points, 20-8.
