Recap: La Salle vs. Northern Iowa

St. Thomas, VI (SportsNetwork.com) - Nate Buss scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Northern Iowa Panthers to a 65-50 victory over the La Salle Explorers in the third-place game of the Paradise Jam at the Sports and Fitness Center.

For the Panthers (3-3), Seth Tuttle added 15 points and five assists.

Steve Zack posted a double-double for the Explorers (3-4) with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyrone Garland finished with 10 points.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, with UNI making only 35.7 percent of its field goal tries and La Salle hitting on only 34.5 percent, as the Panthers went into halftime leading, 29-26.

The Panthers found their range after intermission, connecting on 54.2 percent of their field goal tries in the second, while holding the Explorers to a lowly 28.6 percent, including 2-of-13 from beyond the arc. Leading by just two, 33-31, early in the second, the Panthers used a 12-0 run to build a double-digit cushion. La Salle never got closer than seven the rest of the way, as UNI cruised to victory.

UNI had a slight edge in points in the paint, 26-20. The Panthers bench was very productive, scoring 29 points to just eight for the reserves of the Explorers.
