Recap: Rhode Island vs. UNC-Asheville

Kingston, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Xavier Munford scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as the Rhode Island Rams pulled away for a 73-56 victory over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in consolation play of the NIT Tip-Off at the Ryan Center.

Biggie Minnis also had 14 points for Rhode Island (5-2), while Gilvydas Biruta tacked on 13.

Jaron Lane and Andrew Rowsey each put in 17 points for UNC Asheville (1-5).

At the end of the first half the two teams were deadlocked at 33-33. Rhode Island made good on 12-of-26 field goal attempts while UNC Asheville hit 10- of-20 while holding a 12-6 scoring edge from beyond the arc.

After the break Munford, who missed all five of his field goal tries in the first half, hit 4-of-10 shots from the field as part of a 51.9 percent shooting effort that carried the Rams to victory.

Rhode Island dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs, 37-21. The Rams also had the edge in scoring in the paint, 38-24.
