Recap: Georgia State vs. Canisius

Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a game-high 26 points from Billy Baron, the Canisius Golden Griffins downed the Georgia State Panthers, 79-71, in consolation round action of the NIT Season Tip-Off at Alumni Gym.

For the Golden Griffins (3-2), Chris Perez added 22 points while Jordan Heath finished with 13 points.

Ryan Harrow finished with 23 points to lead the Panthers (2-3), while Curtis Washington scored 14 points and R.J. Hunter chipped in with 11 points.

The Golden Griffins shot 46.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Panthers were not nearly as successful from long range, missing all but one of their eight 3-point tries, part of a 39.4 percent shooting performance in the opening period. Canisius took an early 19-8 advantage, but a late run by GSU cut into that lead as the Golden Griffins took just a 37-34 lead into intermission.

GSU's shooting woes from 3-point range continued after halftime as the Panthers just 2-of-12 from that distance after the break. Conversely, Canisius again excelled from deep, draining 7-of-11 from 3-point distance in the second half. The Golden Griffins got off to another quick start in the half, pushing their lead to 11 with a little over four minutes gone in the half. The Panthers would again respond, cutting their deficit to just two midway through the half, but they could never catch Canisius, which pulled away for the victory.

Canisius dominated from beyond the arc, outscoring GSU 39-9 from 3-point range. In contrast, the Panthers had the decided advantage down low, beating the Golden Griffins in the paint, 42-18.

2014-15 San Jose Sharks Preview

In another move that bucks tradition, the Sharks completely revamped their on- ice leadership structure not by selecting new players to wear the precious singular letters on their uniforms, but by stripping the captaincy from Joe Thornton, removing the alternate tag from Patrick Marleau and leaving the other "A" vacant after Dan Boyle signed as a free agent with the Rangers.
