Recap: Rutgers vs. Fair-Dickinson

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt MacDonald's 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining put Fairleigh Dickinson in the lead and the Knights held on for the 73-72 triumph over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off at the RAC.

MacDonald finished with 14 points, hitting 4-of-8 shots beyond the arc for the Knights (2-6), while Sidney Sanders produced a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 10 assists in the victory. Mustafaa Jones tacked on 21 points and eight boards as he converted 5-of-9 out on the perimeter.

The Scarlet Knights (4-4) were led by J.J. Moore with a game-high 26 points, followed by D'Von Campbell and Wally Judge with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Rutgers led by as many as eight points early in the first half, the team shooting 46.2 percent from the floor in the period in order to grab a 34-31 advantage at the break.

After shooting only 34.8 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes, FDU connected on not only 50.0 percent in the second half, but also 8-of-15 beyond the arc, as the team slipped by for the win.

In a game that featured five ties and seven lead changes, Rutgers collected 17 offensive rebounds, compared to only nine for the Knights, but the hosts managed to score just 13 second-chance points.
