Recap: Canisius vs. Metropolitan State

Elon, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Mitch McCarron tallied 28 points as the Metro State Roadrunners captured an 83-69 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

McCarron shot 5-of-6 behind the 3-point line and 10-of-15 from the floor for Metro State (2-0), which has won three straight in this event, although the program considers these tournament games exhibition affairs. Nicholas Kay contributed 21 points and Brandon Jefferson 17 for the Roadrunners.

The Golden Griffs (3-3) were paced by Dominique Raney with 17 points, Billy Baron 15 and Chris Perez 12 points in the losing cause.

Metro State scored the first points of the contest and never looked back, shooting an even 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half in order to claim a 36-28 advantage at the break.

In the second half it was more of the same for the Roadrunners as they hit on 52.9 percent from the field, including 5-of-11 beyond the arc, en route to the double-digit victory.

Metro State, which is the top-ranked team at the Division II level, forced 14 turnovers and exchanged them for 23 points.
