Recap: East Carolina vs. UNC-Asheville

Kingston, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Paris Campbell scored 20 points to lead the East Carolina Pirates past the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 81-71, as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Prince Williams added 19 points for the Pirates (6-1), while Caleb White, Michael Zangari and Akeem Richmond all finished with 10.

The Bulldogs (1-6) were led by Sam Hughes with 21 points, while Andrew Rowsey scored 16 points, Jaron Lane finished with 13 and David Robertson chipped in with 10 points.

ECU shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range in the first half, while holding Asheville to just 29 percent shooting and 3- of-17 from beyond the arc. After leading by as many as 18 in the opening period, the Pirates went into halftime with a 40-27 advantage.

The Bulldogs improved their shooting after halftime, making 43.6 percent of their field goal tries but still struggled from distance, hitting only 4-of-14 3-point attempts. They were able to get as close as seven late in the contest but the Pirates held on down the stretch, making 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

The Pirates dominated the front court, outrebounding the Bulldogs 47-33 and outscoring them in the paint, 38-30.
