Recap: San Diego vs. Southern Ill

Estero, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnny Dee scored 17 points, while Christopher Anderson added 16, and San Diego defeated Southern Illinois, 59-56, in the fifth place game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Desmar Jackson led all scorers with 23 points, Sean O'Brien tallied 11, and Anthony Beane netted 10 for Southern Illinois (2-5).

With the game tied at 50-50, Dee drilled a 3-pointer with 2:58 remaining in the game to give San Diego (7-1) a slim lead that they held on to for the win.

With six seconds remaining and trailing by three, Jackson's 3-point attempt to tie the game was off the mark. O'Brien gathered the rebound and made a layup for a 57-56 margin with three seconds left.

Dee, who shot 11-for-12 from the free throw line, added two from the charity stripe in the closing seconds, and Jackson's 3 missed as time expired.

Southern Illinois led 23-20 at the break after holding the Toreros to just 7- of-27 from the floor.
