Recap: Louisiana Tech vs. St Bonaventure

Estero, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Raheem Appleby poured in 25 points as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs narrowly defeated the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 76-72, in the championship game of the inaugural Gulf Coast Showdown at the Germain Arena.

Alex Hamilton had 15 points while Michale Kyser chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-1). Kenneth Smith paced the team with seven assists.

Charlon Kloof had a career-high 24 points for the Bonnies (5-2). Matthew Wright scored 20, and Marquise Simmons added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bonnies struggled mightily from the field in the first half, shooting 35.7 percent and making only 1-of-6 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs made field goals at 44 percent efficiency in the opening stanza to take a 34-33 lead at the break.

Louisiana Tech was able to stave off St. Bonaventure late in the game thanks largely to its 20-of-23 showing from the foul line in the second half.

The Bulldogs were helped immensely by their bench, which outscored the Bonnies' reserves, 42-9.
