Recap: Siena vs. Purdue

Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - AJ Hammons scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Purdue Boilermakers took out the Siena Saints, 68-63, in the seventh-place game of the Old Spice Classic at HP Field House.

Before fouling out, Hammons blocked six shots, but also turned the ball over six times without the benefit of a single assist for the Boilermakers (6-2) as they snapped a two-game slide. Ronnie Johnson tallied 13 points on 11- of-12 shooting at the free-throw line, followed by Jay Simpson and Terone Johnson with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Saints (2-7), losers of four straight, were paced by Rob Poole and Evan Hymes with 17 points apiece, followed by Lavon Long with 10.

Siena erupted for 61.5 percent shooting from the floor in the first half, while Purdue was just 38.5 percent accurate, allowing the Saints to claim a 43-30 advantage at the break.

In the second half the lead for the Saints extended to 16 just two minutes in, but the squad ended up converting just six total field goals in the period, opening the door for the Boilermakers to complete a successful comeback bid.

Both teams shot 41.5 percent from the floor, with the big difference being a 21-13 scoring edge for Purdue at the free-throw line.
