Recap: Memphis vs. Oklahoma State

Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Shaq Goodwin tallied 17 points and eight rebounds as No. 21 Memphis exacted revenge over the fifth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys with a 73-68 win in the final of the Old Spice Classic.

OSU (7-1) made a statement to the nation on Nov. 19 when it routed Memphis (5-1) behind a career-high 39 points from sophomore Marcus Smart.

It was a different story on Sunday, as the Tigers shut down the National Player of the Year candidate. Smart had just 12 points on 4-of-13 from the floor, and it was his turnovers in the final seconds that sealed the victory for Memphis.

Goodwin was named the MVP of the Old Spice Classic, and was joined on the All- Tournament Team by teammate Austin Nichols, Smart, Butler guard Kellen Dunham and St. Joseph's forward Ronald Roberts.

Chris Crawford scored 16 points in the triumph, and Michael Dixon, Jr added 12 off the bench.

Phil Forte paced Oklahoma State in defeat with 19 points on 3-of-5 from behind the arc and 8-of-8 from the foul line.

Memphis had lost 14 in a row against ranked foes. It last took down a ranked opponent on Nov. 7, 2009.

Oklahoma State trailed 69-64 with 2:23 remaining when Smart came alive, carving through the Memphis defense for a pair of layups. Memphis had three opportunities to add to its lead on the ensuing possession, but came up empty.

Smart brought the ball down the court for the Cowboys but had the ball poked away trying to split a double team with 11 ticks on the clock. Joe Jackson made a pair of free throws and intercepted Smart's pass for Forte at the other end to put the game away.

Earlier in the second, Le'Bryan Nash beat Memphis up the floor and threw down an emphatic jam put OSU in front 52-50, but was assessed a controversial technical foul for celebrating the dunk and was forced to spend the bulk of the period on the bench with four fouls. The Tigers took advantage of his absence, scoring six in a row to assume control.

The Tigers led 23-19 midway through the first half on Geron Johnson's slam, but Kamari Murphy scored four straight to ignite OSU's 13-2 surge. Brian Williams' tip-in with 10 seconds left put the Cowboys in front, 42-32, at the half.
