Recap: Texas A&M vs. SMU

Corpus Christi, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nic Moore tallied 16 points as the SMU Mustangs overcame a double-digit deficit to defeat the Texas A&M Aggies, 55-52, in the third-place game of the Corpus Christi Challenge at American Bank Center Arena.

Yanick Moreira added 14 points and six boards for SMU (6-2).

Davonte Fitzgerald paced the Aggies (6-2 with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. J'Mychal Reese chipped in 11 points while Kourtney Roberson pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Texas A&M went ahead by 10 points less than eight minutes after the opening tip-off and took a 30-26 lead into the intermission. The Aggies converted all six of their free-throw attempts and knocked down 42.3 percent of their shots from the floor in the first half. SMU missed its only shot at the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mustangs were much more aggressive in the second half and they managed to make 11-of-18 attempts at the free-throw line. Texas A&M watched its lead slip away as it connected on only 26.1 percent of its field goal tries after the break. Reese attempted a shot from beyond the arc as time expired, but he was off the mark. Nick Russell made a pair of free-throw attempts just prior to give SMU a three-point lead.

Despite the loss, the Aggies held a 37-33 edge in the rebounding battle.
