Recap: South Carolina vs. Akron

Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Duane Notice poured in 15 points to lead the South Carolina Gamecocks to a 69-59 win over Akron in the third place game of the Diamond Head Classic.

Sindarius Thornwell and Brenton Williams added 12 points apiece for South Carolina (4-6), which will leave Hawaii with a 2-1 record. The Gamecocks have still not won consecutive games all season.

Demetrius Treadwell paced Akron (6-4) with 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds, while Quincy Diggs scored 10 off the bench.

Akron trailed just once in the opening 20 minutes and jumped out to a 29-20 lead late in the period on a Deji Ibitayo triple. Michael Carrera potted a jumper to close the half, and South Carolina was within six heading into the locker rooms.

Notice and Williams drained consecutive jumpers midway through the second to put the Gamecocks in front for the first time since 18-17 at 7:33 of the first half. A pair of Williams free throws minutes later extended the margin to 53-45, and USC held off the Zips the rest of the way.
