Recap: Santa Clara vs. South Florida

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of late free throws by Jared Brownridge pushed Santa Clara to a 66-65 win over the South Florida Bulls during the championship round of the Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.

Brownridge finished the meeting with 10 points for the Broncos (7-6), matching the production of Jalen Richard who also cleared seven rebounds in a reserve role. Brandon Clark was the top scorer for the team with 12 points, while Jerry Brown cleared a team-high 11 boards as the team won for the fourth time in the last five outings.

The Bulls (8-4) were paced by Victor Rudd who came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he dropped in a game-high 19 points. Chris Perry pitched in with 13 points, although he shot just 1-of-7 at the free-throw line, followed by John Egbunu and Shemiye McLendon with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Egbunu also pulled down 11 rebounds for a USF team that lost for the second time in as many games.

Santa Clara shot a mere 9-of-29 (.310) from the floor in the first half, but the team was still able to slip out to a 28-25 advantage at the break, thanks in part to USF suffering nine turnovers in the period.

The Bulls narrowed their mistakes to just five over the final 20 minutes of action and fought back with an impressive 65.4 percent from the floor, but after taking the late lead South Florida watched the game slip away.

USF shot an impressive 55.1 percent from the floor on the night, but that still wasn't good enough to overcome a dreadful 9-of-24 showing at the free- throw line.
